3D Artist – Environment or Vessel Development

Are you passionate about crafting high-quality 3D assets that power immersive, professional simulation experiences? At VSTEP, we’re building the next generation of maritime simulators, and we’re looking for talented 3D Artists to join our creative team.

We currently have two open positions:

  • 3D Environment Artist

  • 3D Vessel Development Artist

You only need to apply once, just make sure to indicate in your cover letter which role you're applying for (or if you’re open to both). You’ll be part of a small, hands-on team, working closely with our Senior Artist to bring realistic vessels and dynamic port environments to life in NAUTIS and NAUTIS Home.

What you'll be doing:

As a 3D Vessel Development Artist, you enjoy:

  • Creating and texturing accurate 3D vessel models based on deck plans, photos, and technical references.

  • Integrating models into our simulation platform using internal tools (e.g. adding navigation/search lights, anchoring systems, mooring points).

As a 3D Environment Artist, you get excited about:

  • Gathering references such as height data, photo references and nautical charts. 
  • Use our custom Port Creation Tool to build terrain, seabeds, and place buildings and vegetation from our library.
  • Modeling and placing standout structures like bridges and landmarks.
  • Adding detail with elements like buoys, signs, and night-time lighting to make scenes feel alive.
Is this you?
You have:
  • Experience with 3D modelling software such as 3DS Max or Blender and tools like Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of UV unwrapping and the ability to create models based on real-world references.
  • A strong understanding of real-time performance constraints, and the ability to work within texture and triangle budgets.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git or SVN. (Familiarity with tools like Azure DevOps, Jira or similar is a plus).
  • A portfolio that showcases your work.
  • A Dutch working permit, that allows you to live and work in the Netherlands.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Based in the Netherlands, preferably near Rotterdam.
